Tectonic Implications for the Gamburtsev Subglacial Mountains, East Antarctica, from Airborne Gravity and Magnetic Data

The Gamburtsev Subglacial Mountains (GSMs) in the interior East Antarctic Craton are entirely buried under massive ice sheet, with a ~50–60 km thick crust and ~200 lithosphere, but little is known of crustal structure uplift mechanism. Here, we use airborne gravity aeromagnetic anomalies for characteristic analysis inverse calculations. magnetic images show three distinct geophysical domains. Based on anomalies, dense lower root modelled to underlie GSMs, which may have formed by underplating during continental collision Antarctica India. high frequency linear characteristics parallel suture zone suggest that upper architecture dominated thrusts, consisting large transpressional fault system trailing contractional imbricate fan. A 2D model along seismic profile created investigate GSMs aid depth source estimates. Combined calculated geometry physical properties geological background Antarctica, new evolutionary proposed, suggesting underlain part Pan-African age advancing accretionary orogen superimposed Precambrian basement.
